A Liturgical Yearning --

Today and for a long time into the future, the Church in America must live in a penitential mode. We must remember with every breath that we are in serious need of redemption. Today, I feel called to the Sacrifice of the Mass rather than its celebration. I want a priest who faces the altar with me rather than one who presides over the alter above me. I want a Mass where the priest physically acknowledges the crucifixion rather than turning his back on the cross of our redemption. I am in need of a priest and not a celebrant. It doesn't have to be a universal change. It needn't be mandated. I'd be content simply with the option.
