The New York Times’ Smear on Pope Benedict

For Background:
The Myth of Pedophile Priests

God bless and preserve Pope Benedict. He's doing enough things right that he has raised the hackles of the anti-Christs out there. Give him the strength to stand against the wolves that now attack him.

Italian Catholics sacrificing texting for Lent

I think that this is an excellent idea in so many ways. First, it involves real sacrifice for people who use these products. Second, it's a highly visible statement which I think in today's world is important. Third, it encourages alternative social interaction. And finally, it serves very effectively to demarcate the season.

I'd love to see this become an annual Lenten effort and I'd love to see it spread world-wide.

Recovering the past
In fact, he said, one of the questions that most concerns the prelates is that despite the fall of communism, "its structure has remained in legislation and in judicial power, in the economy, in education and in culture," and especially "in the veil of silence that has been hung over the events of the recent past."
...
He continued: "The 'sons of lies' have gathered the pieces of the Curtain and with them, they hide and cast a fog over the truth of the facts, regarding the individuals as well as certain institutions. Some, with the remains of the Curtain, sow the seed of division and confusion."

The truth, Cardinal Bozinac said, "is that the Curtain has fallen, that the system has broken, but that the pieces are very resistant and show themselves by promoting the same falsehoods not only through politics and the relationship with the past, but also with education, science, and teaching."

Is Sustainable Development a code word for anti-human?

Jonathon Porritt, who chairs the [British] government’s Sustainable Development Commission, says curbing population growth through contraception and abortion must be at the heart of policies to fight global warming. He says political leaders and green campaigners should stop dodging the issue of environmental harm caused by an expanding population... Porritt, a former chairman of the Green party, says the government must improve family planning, even if it means shifting money from curing illness to increasing contraception and abortion.

To Mr PennyPincher - on Church Adornment
I particularly liked this line:

"If the body consumes both the spiritual and the physical food, what will the soul feed on then? Have you not heard how the godless people in Moscow have turned everything into bread, ate it and now they hunger - and they hunger now like Russia has not hungered since the times of Askold and Dir"

O Holy Night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of the dear Saviour's birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining.
Till He appeared and the Spirit felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night divine, the night when Christ was born;
